R as in Rangers and Rules
We are Guests in the Forest
Nature has priority in Sihlwald; people are welcome. Rules are needed so that nature can develop as undisturbed as possible. The ranger team ensures that these are adhered to.
Rangers patrol the Sihlwald forest on a regular basis. They are responsible for ensuring that process protection is implemented, and the applicable regulations are adhered to. They know the forest inside out and can provide visitors with information about the different zones and the special features of the Sihlwald.
Ranger Service
The ranger service in the Nature Discovery Parks comprises many tasks. Primarily, the team ensures that all rules and protection regulations are followed and acts as park supervisors. Additionally, the rangers provide visitors with advice and assistance. They regularly maintain the paths and take down rotten and dead trees next to the paths as a preventative measure to ensure the safety of hikers and cyclists. They regularly check the signposts and infrastructure and repair them if necessary. The team also monitor sthe flora and fauna in the park and takes action against invasive neophytes. In principle, nature is given priority. However, if necessary, they intervene in habitats in a targeted manner and enhance them.
Rules
Stricter rules apply in the Sihlwald than in other forests, as it is a natural forest reserve with a strictly protected Core Zone. In addition, the Sihlwald harbours more dangers for visitors than conventional managed forests. Due to the large amount of dead wood and dry branches, caution is required, especially during or immediately after storms and other extreme phenomena, such as prolonged rainfall, heavy snowfall or periods of heat and drought. It is important to follow the rules and warnings. In the Nature Discovery Zone, visitors are allowed to walk off the paths in the forest, horse riding and cycling are permitted on the designated paths, barbecuing is allowed at marked fireplaces, and dogs are welcome on a leash. Guests are asked to take their rubbish with them and dispose of it at home. Tents and camping are not permitted.
In the Core Zone, the following applies: compulsory use of paths and fire bans, picking plants and mushrooms is not allowed here.
