The bison enclosure in the western part of the Langenberg is now mostly an open meadow area. There are only stands of trees or shrubs along the edges. European bisons are forest animals. To keep them in a species-appropriate environment, they need more trees to provide shade, which the animals can seek out in the heat. The enhancement is also used to promote biodiversity.
A large hedge with native trees and shrubs, branch piles, reptile castles and dead wood is to be planted in the bison enclosure to provide as much shade and new habitats as possible. As a visitor to the zoo, you can find out at an interactive station how you can promote biodiversity on your own doorstep or in your garden.

More biodiversity
The European bison enclosure in Wildnispark Zurich Langenberg is being upgraded
