"WaldWildnisWir" - the anniversary exhibition has opened

The joy after the wait is great: on May 19, the Zurich Wilderness Park Foundation opens the doors of the nature museum in Sihlwald. It is celebrating Sihlwald's tenth anniversary as a "Nature Experience Park - Park of National Importance" with the new "WaldWildnisWir" exhibition.

Nature has priority in the Sihlwald: the formerly intensively used forest is slowly but steadily developing into a forest wilderness. The natural processes are protected and the Sihlwald is allowed to develop freely as a natural forest. However, it is still accessible to visitors as a place to experience. A unique combination, for which the Sihlwald was the first area in Switzerland to be awarded the "Nature Discovery Park - Park of National Importance" label by the Federal Office for the Environment ten years ago.

By combining nature conservation with the visitor experience, forest wilderness can be experienced up close in the Sihlwald. However, the special features of the natural forest often remain hidden from visitors. This is where the exhibition "WaldWildnisWir - Faszination Naturwald" comes in - for example, it awakens enthusiasm for a very special microcosm right outside the museum door with insights into the work of natural forest researchers. Suddenly, the rotting tree trunk becomes a living puzzle piece of the big picture. With the knowledge gained in the exhibition, a walk through the surrounding forest wilderness of the Sihlwald is sure to be even more impressive. The natural forest can be experienced, explored and discovered without any worries, even in times of coronavirus.

Opening with a protection concept

From May 19, the regular opening hours for the exhibition will apply (Tue to Sat 12.00 - 17.30, Sun and public holidays 9.00 - 17.30, Mon closed). Like all Swiss museums, the Museum of Nature has drawn up an individual protection concept to contain the coronavirus. Due to official regulations, not all elements of the exhibition are yet accessible. Replacements have been made where possible: for example, touchscreens can be downloaded to cell phones using QR interfaces. Guided tours will not take place until further notice. The comprehensive protection concept can be found on the website of the Zurich Wilderness Park Foundation.
