The Brochenegg hut, a shelter that is no longer in use, will be removed from the Sihlwald forest by helicopter tomorrow. As the small hut was located in the core zone of the Sihlwald Nature Discovery Park, it had to be demolished in accordance with the cantonal protection ordinance. The Zurich Wilderness Park implements the protection ordinance for the canton of Zurich and is therefore responsible for its removal. Flying out by helicopter is the most forest-friendly method in the inaccessible area. Around 20 flights are required for the approximately five tons of material.

A narrow, steep path leads up to the small Brochenegg hut, which last served as a shelter for forest workers in the 1990s. It has been empty ever since. The hut was located in a scenic, impassable spot near the Albis Pass. The area is impassable for vehicles.

Sihlwald core zone

The core zone comprises 41 percent of the Sihlwald. In this zone, the natural development of the forest is given free rein. The aim is to preserve the mixed beech forest, which is unique in Europe, for our children and grandchildren. A few additional rules are needed to make this possible. For example, all guests must stay on the paths and refrain from picking plants or mushrooms and making fires.
