Langenberg is the largest zoo in Switzerland in terms of area - a significant advantage in the context of the precautions against the coronavirus pandemic: the number of guests permitted by the authorities is so large that it was not reached even on the busiest days of the previous year. The Zurich Wilderness Park Foundation has therefore decided to open Langenberg Zoo as usual and without access restrictions. However, the safety of guests and staff is still the top priority. The "new normal" is also taking hold at Langenberg: As everywhere else, the recommendations of the Federal Office of Public Health apply. Above all, this includes maintaining a minimum distance of two meters.
Control by means of counters
Electronic counters continuously record visitor frequency. When visitor numbers are high, it is therefore possible to calculate how many people are in each area for the east and west sections of the park. If, contrary to expectations, the permitted number of visitors is exceeded, the two main entrances and the parking lots can be closed and new visitors denied access until enough people have left the park.
Wildlife messengers on the road
The popular "zookeeper on site" offers or guided tours through the walk-in wild boar enclosure have been canceled for the time being. Instead, the "wildlife messengers" will circulate freely in the park at weekends when the weather is fine and during the school vacations. They provide information on the animals and, if necessary, on protective measures. They also monitor whether the social distancing rules are being observed by visitors.
Closed areas
Some attractions will remain closed for the time being. These include the "Müsli-Hüsli", the pulpits of the bear and lynx enclosures, the elk house, the fire cave, the Mongolian yurt, the spring water castle and the lower pulpit of the otter enclosure as well as the underwater view in the Sihlwald.
Restaurant and store
The Langenberg restaurant offers self-service delicacies for small and large appetites. The Eschle family, who run the restaurant, have drawn up a corresponding protection concept in accordance with the requirements of the catering industry. From June 9, the Ofen- und Jägerstübli will also be serving food in the evening.
The Wilderness Park store will be open again for our guests from June 10.
