Focus on ibex and red deer. Press release for the 2024 issue of "Wildnis" magazine.
This year's issue of the "Wildnis" magazine offers you exciting insights into the Zurich Wilderness Park. It focuses on two animal species that were extinct in Switzerland 150 years ago: Red deer and Alpine ibex. Today, this is hardly imaginable!
Read on to find out why the populations of these cloven-hoofed animals have been able to recover and why the Alpine ibex is still endangered despite this success story.
In order to preserve endangered species, the Zurich Wilderness Park participates in eight international breeding programs for native and formerly native wild animals. The Alpine ibex breeding program is new; it was launched by the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums EAZA in 2022. Langenberg Zoo is actively involved.
We would be delighted if "Wilderness" inspires you and encourages you to visit Zurich Wildlife Park. The magazine also contains our event program and exciting excursion tips. And last but not least: we are currently collecting donations for the renovation of the 75-year-old ibex enclosure.
